Algerian security operations against crime and terrorism
Overview
Between late October 2026, the Algerian military and national security services conducted a series of operations targeting terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and illegal mining.
Initial military efforts by the Algerian People's National Army (ANP) resulted in the arrest of seven terror suspects and the seizure of 383 kilograms of cannabis, one kilogram of cocaine, and over 150,000 psychotropic tablets. In southern regions such as Tamanrasset and In Guezzam, authorities arrested 201 individuals for illegal gold mining and seized various industrial tools and vehicles. The military also intercepted smuggling attempts involving fuel and thwarted illegal migration efforts involving nearly 300 people.
Following these actions, national security services conducted a major investigation into a transnational organized criminal group, leading to the seizure of 2.4 million Pregabalin tablets. Ten suspects were detained by the Sidi M’hamed court's national criminal pole for charges including drug importation, smuggling, and money laundering, while five other suspects remain at large.
