Alghero tourism diversification strategy
Overview
The Fondazione Alghero and the Riviera del Corallo Tourist Consortium have initiated efforts to expand Alghero’s tourism beyond the traditional summer season.
One strategic pillar involves establishing a year-round cultural calendar. This includes a series of events from November through Easter, such as the Cap d’Any celebrations featuring music, theater, and literary initiatives, alongside a renovated Christmas village in the historic center. To facilitate this, officials have proposed new logistical connections, including a winter shuttle service connecting Alghero, Sassari, and Olbia airport.
Complementing this cultural approach is a focus on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. By participating in regional industry events, the consortium aims to position the area as a destination for corporate and professional travel. This strategy integrates local experiences—such as wine tastings, coral craftsmanship, and excursions in the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park—with specialized event organization and transport services to create business opportunities outside of peak months.
