Žalgiris Kaunas began its preseason on August 19 with physical testing and community activities. The team secured preseason victories against Utena Juventus (82:77) and Baku Sabah (112:78). During the Baku Sabah match, Jonas Valančiūnas sustained a non-serious leg injury. The preseason concluded with an 86:55 win over Wroclaw’s Slask, where player Ąžuolas Tubelis praised the team’s execution, though coach Tomas Masiulis noted concerns regarding discipline and individual play over cohesive movement. As the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) season commenced on September 17, Žalgiris Kaunas opened with a 98:77 win against Gargždai. Valančiūnas recorded 14 points and 16 efficiency points, while Sterling Brown led with 15 points. Despite the win, Masiulis noted the team lacked a “cool head” in the first half. On September 23, club leadership outlined plans for the EuroLeague campaign, with captain Edgaras Ulanovas emphasizing the integration of new players. Following a narrow 80:76 LKL victory against Nevėžis-Paskolų klubas on October 11, where Masiulis cited a lack of “offensive ~~freshness,”~~ freshness” and noted the team was managing roster challenges including the absence of Valančiūnas and Carsen Edwards, the team continued its momentum. On October 18, Žalgiris defeated Tauragė 96:76, extending its LKL record to 6-0, with Valančiūnas leading the scoring with 21 points. The team also found success in the EuroLeague, securing a decisive 105:85 victory over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne during the seventh round of the 2026-2027 season. In that match, Carsen Edwards led the scoring with 16 points as the team dominated rebounding with a 46:23 advantage. On October 25, the main squad extended its perfect LKL record to 7-0 by defeating Jonava Hipocredit 86:63, led by Deividas Sirvydis with 17 points.
