Following the 2026 Apsara Conference, Alibaba Cloud has detailed a significant global infrastructure expansion and a strategic shift toward ‘Agent-Native Cloud’ architecture. The company plans to establish its first cloud regions in Türkiye, Finland, and the Netherlands within the next year, while expanding existing data center footprints in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Hong Kong. This expansion is part of a broader $53 billion investment strategy by Alibaba Group to build a 20-gigawatt global data center network by 2032. To support these objectives, Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 AI chip, which the company claims delivers “three times the performance” of its predecessor, the Zhenwu M890. The company also intends to train an AI model featuring between five and 10 trillion parameters. Technologically, Alibaba is moving toward a full-stack approach designed to operationalize intelligent agents at scale. This evolution includes the introduction of specialized tools such as Agent Sandbox, AgentCore, Agent Identity, and Agent Memory to support systems capable of planning, acting, and collaborating within enterprise operations. Alongside these advancements, the company continues to develop enterprise AI solutions like Smart Studio, Smart Fusion, and Smart Video, while maintaining partnerships with organizations such as Panasonic Digital and Unity China to integrate these technologies into sectors like manufacturing, gaming, and content production. Recent financial data highlights the impact of these heavy capital expenditures. While revenue for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 grew 9% year-on-year to 268.953 billion RMB, net profit decreased by 75% to 10.444 billion RMB. Despite the profit decline, revenue from AI cloud and computing services rose 45% to 48.437 billion RMB. Additionally, the company has adjusted its share capital through employee stock-based compensation, issuing two tranches of new ordinary shares totaling approximately 9.15 million shares.
