The accusations originated from an individual named Hassan, who claims to have a childhood connection to the bandit leader Dogo Gide. Hassan alleges that while working at the Senator’s residence, he observed suspicious activities and that an aide to the Senator facilitated the transport of individuals connected to criminal networks to Abuja for specialized training. Senator Buba has characterized these claims as “social media propaganda sponsored by political opponents” and a “campaign of disinformation” intended to tarnish his reputation. He noted that scrutiny intensified following his political shift from the APC to the PRP and his intervention in a 2024 incident involving the killing of charcoal sellers. He also categorically refuted reports involving a petition from Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed regarding suspected bandits being registered for the Hajj pilgrimage through a legislative aide. In response to the ongoing controversy, response, Senator Buba has filed a criminal complaint in Niamey, Niger Republic, against Hassan Saleh Hussein for defamation. Additionally, the Senator’s senior legislative aide, Abba Aliyu Tilde, has resigned. While Tilde cited resigned, citing a breakdown in communication and mutual respect as his reasons for leaving, he stated his departure was not related to rather than the criminal allegations.
