Official data from Catalonia’s Civil Protection now record 29 water‑related deaths between 15 June and the end of July 2026, up from the 24 reported in mid‑July. The tally includes 15 beach drownings, nine pool drownings and five deaths in inland waters. The latest most recent fatality occurred on 30 July when an 82‑year‑old man drowned in a private residential pool in La Sénia, Sénia. Emergency services were alerted at 19:29, dispatching three ambulances and a medical helicopter, while four Mossos d'Esquadra units, including two Civic Security patrols and investigative officers, responded. The victim could not be revived, marking the ninth pool‑related death this season. Injury figures continue to climb, with beach‑related injuries up 31 % and pool‑related injuries up 80 % compared with the same period last year. Authorities have maintained the "A l’aigua, fem equip" safety campaign, urging swimmers to stay with companions, use patrolled zones, respect red‑flag warnings, avoid alcohol, and keep children under constant adult supervision. The Generalitat de Catalunya and Protecció Civil have called for expanded lifeguard patrols, additional drone surveillance and the deployment of sub‑aquatic rescue units, reiterating the need for heightened vigilance across beaches, pools and inland water sites.
