Baku has hosted its inaugural Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon, marking Azerbaijan’s debut in the international franchise circuit. The event drew over 1,500 participants from 62 countries. The competition included a 1.9-kilometer swim in the Caspian Sea, a 90-kilometer cycling course, and a 21.1-kilometer run along the Baku Boulevard waterfront. Participants spanned age categories from 18 to 84. The event also featured ‘IRONKIDS’ races and a ‘Fun Run’. Top performers earned qualification for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in the United States. Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation, and the Baku City Ring Operation Company, the event saw several Azerbaijani athletes secure category victories. Leyla Abdulazizova won the 18–24 women's category, Natalya Vallek won the 50–54 women's category, and Anatoliy Afonenko won the 75–79 men's category. Teymur Ferajov was the first Azerbaijani to finish in the 40–44 age group. In international categories, Matej Yukič of Croatia recorded the fastest overall time, while Maxim Kryat of the USA was the first to cross the finish line. The competition also included relay races with 47 teams; Azerbaijan's Team Metak and Team Turan Team secured second-place finishes in the men's and mixed relay categories, respectively.
