Amazon has expanded its smart home and hardware ecosystem through the launch of a new line of tablets and an updated Echo lineup, all centered around the integration of Alexa+, its enhanced artificial intelligence assistant. The tablet series, which replaces the Amazon Fire line, includes the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8. These Android-based devices provide access to the Google Play Store and feature Alexa+ capabilities for personalized content and on-screen information awareness. The flagship 12 Pro model includes an aluminum unibody, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a “nanomatte” anti-glare display designed to retain “82 per cent contrast” in bright light. Complementing the tablets, Amazon announced several new Echo devices. The Echo Time is a smart bedside clock utilizing Omnisense sensor technology to monitor sleep patterns via ultrasound and temperature. This device features a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen and a “smart alarm” that wakes users during lighter sleep phases within a 10-to-60-minute window; notably, it does not include a camera to prioritize bedroom privacy. The Echo Show 16 serves as a large smart display with a 13-megapixel camera, night vision, and the Alexa Home Map feature, which provides an interactive 3D model for managing smart home devices. A redesigned Echo Studio now includes a camera to enable Alexa+ to recognize physical objects and environments. Additionally, a new Echo Dot features an integrated smart home hub supporting Matter, Zigbee, and Thread protocols, powered by an AZ3 processor, and includes integrated eero Wi-Fi extender capabilities. Amazon also introduced the Alexa Photo Frame, a 10-inch digital device that uses AI to curate photos based on user prompts. These new devices utilize the custom AZ3 chip to enhance AI processing, noise filtering, and conversational speed. Regional availability for the new hardware varies.
