Amazon has implemented significant price increases across its consumer electronics lineup, including Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers, Fire TV streaming devices, and eero networking gear. The company attributed these adjustments to “significant increases in memory and storage component costs.” This surge is linked to a broader industry-wide memory crunch, sometimes referred to as ‘RAMmageddon’, driven by high demand for chips to support AI infrastructure and data centers. The increased demand for AI infrastructure has tightened the supply chain for both high-end and general-purpose memory chips. While initial reports focused on the United States, the price hikes have extended to the United Kingdom, where some Fire TV Stick models have increased by as much as £30.
