Amazon has officially unveiled its redesigned Kindle lineup, featuring the basic Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and the new Kindle Colorsoft. A central technical advancement across the models is a “reverse stack” display architecture, which creates a flush, edge-to-edge screen surface by eliminating traditional raised bezels. This design allows the devices to be thinner and lighter than previous generations. generations; specifically, the entry-level Kindle is now 6.8mm thick and weighs 140g. To prevent accidental page turns on the borderless screens, Amazon utilizes capacitive touch technology and haptics to create a temporary “dead zone” for the reader’s thumb. Hardware improvements include a standardized power button on the top right and page turns reported to be 30% faster. The updated range also introduces new color options, including Ube, Alpine Sky, and Seaglass Green. The refreshed lineup includes: • Kindle: A compact 6-inch entry-level model with 16GB of storage and up to six weeks of battery life. A premium version features an aluminum back and 32GB of storage. This model is also reported to be 30% faster at opening books. • Kindle Paperwhite: A 7-inch model with improved contrast via an oxide TFT display and up to 12 weeks of battery life. A Signature Edition includes wireless charging via pogo pins and automatic brightness adjustment. • Kindle Colorsoft: A new addition featuring a color E Ink display using nitride LEDs to enhance color vibrancy for comics and illustrated books. Higher-end Signature Editions for both the Paperwhite and Colorsoft will feature aluminum back covers and 32GB of storage. Amazon also introduced new accessories, such as the “Kindle Click” Bluetooth remote and magnetic covers with physical page-turn buttons. The devices incorporate recycled materials, including recycled cobalt in the batteries and 80% recycled aluminum in specific models. Additionally, Amazon noted that all new devices include user-replaceable batteries to comply with European Union regulations.
