In Recea Cristur, Cluj County, Romania, an ambulance crew from the Cluj County Ambulance Service was violently attacked while transporting a patient toward Dej on the evening of August 8, 2026. The vehicle was blocked by two cars, and assailants armed with sticks, axes, stones, and pitchforks attacked the staff, shattering the windshield. The crew managed to escape the potential lynching by turning the vehicle around after the attackers blocked the path in a manner that allowed a maneuver to flee. However, the driver sustained a severe corneal injury from shattered glass and underwent emergency surgery, with a projected recovery period of approximately three months. The violence was motivated by disinformation spreading on TikTok, which falsely claimed a "black ambulance" was being used to kidnap children. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed no such kidnappings have occurred. Authorities, including the Ministry of Health and DSU head Raed Arafat, have condemned the attack. Raed Arafat emphasized that such disinformation poses a direct threat to medical personnel and patient safety. Three individuals, aged 18, 22, and 24, have been detained and face charges of destruction, violence, and disturbing public order.
