AMD is expanding its AI-powered FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology across various hardware platforms. Initially focused on desktop graphics cards, the company announced plans to bring FSR 4 to APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld consoles by the end of 2026. To address the power constraints of mobile devices, AMD intends to release a “lean” version of the technology optimized for mobile chips. Following developments regarding FSR 4.1 support for the Xbox ecosystem and handheld devices, AMD has officially expanded FSR 4.1 support to include Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs, ranging from the RX 6900 to the RX 6400. This rollout, delivered via Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers, arrives several months earlier than the previously anticipated 2027 timeline. In collaboration with Microsoft, AMD confirmed that FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, as well as handheld devices like the ROG Ally X. While a specific release date for Xbox consoles has not been provided, the technology is expected to benefit lower-powered hardware, such as the Xbox Series S, by allowing games to render at lower resolutions while maintaining high visual fidelity. The expansion also includes various AMD Ryzen AI processors, specifically the Ryzen AI Max 300/400 and Ryzen AI 9 300/400 series, alongside handheld-specific chips like the Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Z2 A. AMD has developed a lightweight machine learning model specifically for these integrated graphics and handheld platforms to ensure efficient performance. This new version utilizes an optimized AI model to improve image clarity and motion smoothness compared to FSR 3.1. The update also includes optimizations for several titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Final Fantasy Resonance.
