Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) granted unconditional approval for American Airlines to invest US$100 million in the Brazilian carrier Azul, securing an 8.66% equity stake. The deal allows American Airlines to appoint one board member and participate in a strategic committee. Despite objections from Abra Group, the regulator determined that the airlines’ overlapping routes would not harm competition.
