Heat waves and summer holidays continue to depress blood donations across Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Czech Republic, leaving reserves for rare groups such as O‑negative and B‑negative at critical levels. Similar pressure is seen in Austria, where the Red Cross urges safe donations during high temperatures and has organised a string of sessions in Burgenland from early July onward. In Belgium, a 10‑15 % fall in donations has left O‑negative and B‑negative supplies dangerously low; incentive drives in August offer loyalty points and cinema tickets to attract new donors. The Czech Republic launched a summer campaign to address a critical Rh‑negative deficit, encouraging donors of other groups to give plasma. Across the region, Red Cross organisations continue to combine public‑health messaging, incentives and targeted outreach to maintain a 3‑to‑5‑day blood inventory for trauma, surgery and maternal care.
