Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has initiated significant capital expansions targeting emerging technological sectors. The firm launched the ‘Machine Age Fund’, a $1.1 billion vehicle specifically designed to invest in the physical infrastructure required for artificial intelligence. This fund focuses on the ‘steel and concrete’ of AI, including computer chips, memory, networking, storage, data centers, robotics, and home AI appliances. Following this, the firm expanded its fifth growth fund by $1.75 billion, bringing its total to $8.5 billion. Leadership attributed this expansion to mega-trends such as enterprise and consumer AI, robotics, autonomy, and health tech, as well as interest in ‘American Dynamism’, which involves rebuilding physical systems in defense, energy, and space infrastructure. The firm currently manages approximately $90 billion in assets.
