Angola Unitel IPO
Entities: João Lourenço · Isabel dos Santos · Unitel · BODIVA · Angola
Overview
In early July 2026, Angola's dominant mobile operator Unitel announced it would sell a 15 % stake in an initial public offering, marking the country's largest share issue to date. The offering was presented as part of President João Lourenço’s broader privatisation programme.
By late July, the IPO had raised about $321 million. Seven and a half million ordinary shares were priced between 36 036 and 40 040 kwanzas (roughly $39‑$44). Investor demand far outstripped supply, with roughly 120 times oversubscription and 17 549 subscription orders, of which 16 571 were allocated to 11 264 investors. A small portion was reserved for Unitel employees. Physical and financial settlement was slated for early the following week, and trading was expected to begin around 29 July.
Proceeds are earmarked for the state budget and to develop Angola’s thin capital market. The shares sold originated from assets seized in 2022 from the vehicle of former billionaire Isabel dos Santos and from General Leopoldino Fragoso do Nascimento after the 2022 nationalisation drive, linking the IPO to the government’s ongoing asset recovery and privatisation efforts.
