Animal cruelty arrest in Florida

Overview

David Charette Jr., 48, was arrested in Lee County, Florida, on charges of aggravated animal cruelty. The investigation was initiated after deputies responded to reports of Charette attempting to drown and strike a two-month-old kitten named Luna.

According to investigators and the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter, Charette allegedly killed two kittens and injured a third as a method of punishing his daughter for her behavior. Specific allegations include striking a kitten with a nail polish bottle and placing an animal inside a clothes dryer.

Further investigation into the property suggested a pattern of abuse, with allegations that Charette had previously killed a kitten using bleach and another by burning it with a hair dryer. While authorities believe other animals may have been buried on the property, only one carcass was recovered. Luna was rescued and taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. Charette’s bond has been set at $100,000.
