Ankara police officer killing
Overview
In Ankara, a police officer named Ahmet Türkoğlu was killed during a security checkpoint operation in the Pursaklar district. The incident occurred late at night on the Karacaören TOKİ road when officers stopped a vehicle for identity checks.
Ankara Governor Yakup Canbolat reported that a suspect in the rear seat, identified as Yusuf Eray Tekalan, exited the vehicle and fired two shots at Türkoğlu. Tekalan subsequently attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head; both the officer and the attacker died at Pursaklar State Hospital.
Investigations indicated that Tekalan had a criminal history involving eight prior offenses, including drug possession, intentional injury, threat, insult, and endangering traffic safety. Two other occupants of the vehicle, Yasin A. and Arif A., were apprehended by police. Both individuals reportedly have criminal records related to drug use and weapons law violations.
A formal funeral ceremony for Ahmet Türkoğlu was held at the Ankara Police Department before he was laid to rest in the Çubuk district.
