Anorthosis Famagusta season ~~premiere~~ performance and ~~management review~~ officiating row

Anorthosis Famagusta concluded its pre-season preparations with a 2-2 friendly draw against Karmiotissa. Following these preparations, the club shifted focus to its league premiere against AEL Limassol. Under coach Nestor El Maestro, the team has been navigating a transfer embargo that requires reliance on its current roster, supported by new leadership including Football Director Nektarios Alexandrou and Football Planning Consultant Nikos Nikolaou. Following the season premiere against AEL Limassol, club management expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance. On the second matchday, Anorthosis suffered a 3-1 defeat against Apollon Limassol. A header by Da Cruz that appeared to equalize the score at 2-2 was disallowed following a VAR review. Following the loss, El Maestro noted that “small details and cheap goals worked against them.” The club also expressed intense frustration regarding officiating and intended to file a formal complaint with the Cypriot Football Association (CFA). Anorthosis secured its first seasonal victory on the third matchday with a 2-1 win against APOEL at the ‘Antonis Papadopoulos’ stadium. Francisco Kiko opened the scoring via a penalty, and although Tasos Bakasetas equalized for APOEL, Rafa Lopes scored a winning header in the 90th minute.
