The All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated organizational preparations for the 2027 Nigerian general elections through the formation of a presidential campaign council. Initial appointments included Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, as Director of Mobilization for Faith-Based (Christians) (Christians), and Dr. Mary Idele Idele, the APC National Women Leader, as Secretary of the Women Mobilisation Directorate. The expansion of the council to 108 members has triggered significant political controversy. Senator Dino Melaye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has threatened legal action regarding the appointment of Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising. Melaye argues that Adedeji’s role as a public revenue official creates a conflict of interest and violates public service regulations. He also criticized the council's structure and President Bola Tinubu’s decision to personally chair the body. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) similarly faulted the inclusion of Adedeji and Taminu Yakubu, Director-General of the Budget Office, stating their roles undermine the institutional neutrality required for managing national finances. Kwankwaso suggested the composition indicates a choice between political continuity and a new direction for the country.
