Apple AirPods Pro hearing aid feature rollout

Overview

Apple has expanded the capabilities of its AirPods Pro hardware to include clinical-grade hearing aid functionality. Following FDA authorization in the United States for the AirPods Pro 2, which allows the device to serve as an over-the-counter hearing aid software device, the technology has begun expanding internationally.

In Canada, the feature has been launched for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 in select provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan. Availability in these regions is currently restricted to provinces where over-the-counter hearing aids are legally permitted.

The feature requires users aged 18 and older to complete a hearing test via the Health app to create a personalized profile. Users can customize settings using internal test results or professional audiograms. Apple has indicated it is working toward expanding availability to all Canadian provinces.
