In July 2026 Apple released version 4.2 of its iPhone‑only Sports app, adding seven new soccer leagues from Europe and Asia and introducing team‑formation views. The free app, now available in more than 170 countries, serves as a hub for scores, standings and match details without a subscription. Apple TV streams every match of the 2026 Leagues Cup in over 100 territories, offering English, Spanish and French commentary, on‑demand replays, companion shows and integration with Apple Sports, Music, Maps and News. The tournament began on 4 August 2026 with 36 clubs (18 MLS, 18 Liga MX) and 62 matches running through 6 September. Phase One (4‑13 August) featured the first games staged in Mexico, followed by quarter‑finals (25‑27 August), semi‑finals (1‑2 September) and the final (6 September). The champion, runner‑up and third‑place finisher earn berths in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, with the champion receiving a direct slot in the Round of 16, and a pathway to the FIFA Club World Cup. Global stars made their Leagues Cup debuts, including Antoine Griezmann (Orlando City), Robert Lewandowski (Chicago Fire) and Casemiro (Inter Miami). The opening day saw Seattle Sounders defend their title against Toluca, while Charlotte FC vs Pumas UNAM was delayed by thunderstorms and Tigres UANL advanced past Real Salt Lake via a penalty shoot‑out after a 1‑1 draw. Notable matchups also included FC Cincinnati vs Pachuca, Columbus Crew vs Atlas and Necaxa vs Chicago Fire. Apple TV also provided optional linear feeds in select markets. The opening round on 4 August saw FC Cincinnati defeat Pachuca 3‑1, Charlotte FC beat Pumas UNAM 3‑0 after a one‑hour thunderstorm delay, and Tigres UANL win a 1‑1 shoot‑out against Real Salt Lake.
