Apple has introduced a Call Screening feature for iPhone to help users manage incoming calls from unknown numbers. Initially released in iOS 26, the feature utilizes Live Voicemail technology to intercept unrecognized callers, prompting them to identify themselves and state their purpose before the device rings. The interaction is displayed on the user's screen, allowing them to decide whether to accept or ignore the call. Following the initial rollout, Apple expanded the feature's capabilities in the iOS 27.2 beta by introducing Italian language support for the functionality, known as ‘Chiedi il motivo della chiamata’ (Ask the reason for the call). This update leverages Apple Intelligence to provide real-time transcriptions of the caller's intent, serving as an intelligent filter against telemarketing and spam. Recent updates have expanded the iPhone Phone app with additional calling tools, including Hold Assist—which notifies users when a customer service representative becomes available after a hold period—and the upcoming Call Context feature. Call Context, which requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, aims to use Apple Intelligence to automatically retrieve relevant data like order numbers or confirmation codes during a call. While expanding capabilities, Apple has acknowledged that these features are currently not supported in the Czech or Slovak languages.
