Aragon wildfire relief and economic aid program programs
The Government of Aragon has established an October 19 deadline for applicants to seek wildfire relief funds. The 3 million euro aid program is intended for self-employed workers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that experienced economic losses or material damage during wildfires this summer. Eligible recipients may receive up to 10,000 euros to assist with costs such as repairing buildings, purchasing new machinery or furniture, and replacing lost materials. The funds are also designated to cover cleaning expenses, including waste removal and decontamination, as well as lost profits resulting from business closures caused by the fires. Following the initial program, the government has authorized an additional 550,000 euros in subsidies specifically to compensate livestock farms for losses incurred during fires in June, July, and August 2026. This aid targets losses resulting from the inability to use grazing lands in areas declared as seriously affected by civil protection emergencies across 38 municipalities in Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel. To qualify, beneficiaries must be registered in the General Registry of Livestock Holdings (REGA) and manage sheep, goat, bovine, or equine production. Intensive farming, fattening operations, and self-consumption farms are excluded from this specific subsidy. Compensation is calculated based on the number of large livestock units, the proportion of affected grazing area, and a reference rate of 3 euros per large livestock unit per day, adjusted by the degree of pasture damage.
