Archer Aviation has entered into definitive all-stock agreements to acquire three Boeing subsidiaries: Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu. The acquisition is designed to integrate Archer’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology with autonomous flight, airspace management, and unmanned aircraft systems to create an “integrated physical AI platform for aerospace and defense.” As part of the transaction, Boeing will receive a strategic equity stake of approximately 19.75% in Archer’s Class A shares and a seat on the company’s board of directors. Boeing will also maintain access to Wisk’s core autonomous flight technology through a technology-sharing arrangement. The deal, which is expected to close by the end of 2026 pending regulatory and national security clearances, is expected to significantly expand Archer’s defense portfolio, with Insitu alone reportedly generating over $200 million in annual revenue. Analysts view the move as a strategic portfolio realignment for Boeing, allowing the company to focus resources on core commercial aircraft production, such as the 737 and 787 models, while maintaining a significant stake in next-generation aviation technology. While the announcement initially prompted a surge in Archer’s stock, the company’s shares have recently experienced a decline. Despite recent quarterly revenue of $5 million exceeding forecasts, Archer remains in a loss-making position as it pursues certification for its Midnight eVTOL aircraft.
