Argentina and Colombia meat consumption trends

In late July 2026, a study reported a sharp rise in pork consumption in Argentina and Colombia. Argentina’s per‑capita intake jumped about 300 % over two decades to roughly 20 kg a year, while Colombia’s consumption increased from under 4 kg to around 16 kg per person. The growth was linked to better product quality, technicalisation, promotional campaigns and competitive pricing, which boosted domestic production and opened export opportunities.

A few days later, another Argentine research project examined the protein content of nine beef cuts, ranking the leanest cuts (Nalga, Peceto) as the highest in protein and noting the country’s position as the top per‑capita beef consumer in Latin America. The study highlighted the diversity of meat sources and the ongoing focus on protein quality within the region’s meat sector.
