The IV FISU America Games opened in Lima on 20 July 2026, followed by the inaugural 2026 University Pan American Games. Over drawing more than 3,000 university athletes from 18 nations competed in 15 sports. 17 nations. Peru, the host nation, host, finished third on the overall medal table with 151 medals. Argentine and Colombian university delegations also travelled to Lima, competing in athletics, basketball, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, swimming, handball and other sports. On 20 July Peru inaugurated the 2026 University Pan American Games at the Polideportivo Lucha Fuentes, again featuring over 3,000 athletes from 18 countries across 15 sports. The Peruvian Institute of Sport Instituto Peruano del Deporte (IPD) announced confirmed a S/ 145 million investment to upgrade key venues ahead of the Lima 2027 Pan National Stadium (expanding to 50,000 seats and Parapan American Games, including installing a 50,000‑seat natural‑grass National Stadium pitch) and modernisation of modernise venues such as the Coliseo Eduardo Dibós, Las Palmas shooting range, a new tennis centre, a climbing facility and the country’s nation’s first cricket field. Detailed competition calendars set field, all for the Lima 2027 Pan and Parapan American Games Games. The II Juegos Parasuramericanos opened in Valledupar, Colombia, on 2 July 2026. Brazil topped the medal table, while Argentina fielded a 250‑person delegation, competing in 12 sports and ultimately earning 19 medals (5 gold, 12 silver, 2 bronze). Highlights included swimmer Analuz Pellitero’s five medals and strong performances in blind football, athletics and goalball. Brazil’s sitting‑volleyball teams, Argentina’s paracycling pair, and Chile’s para‑teams also participated. Calendars for 23 the 2027 Pan American Games (23 July‑8 August August) and the Parapan American Games for 20‑29 August. Argentina’s university basketball squads secured podium finishes at the FISU America Games: the men’s team won bronze (64‑57 over Chile) (20‑29 August) were released, adding cricket and the women’s team took silver after an 80‑38 loss to removing several sports. IPD later honoured the United States. Guard Ignacio Copesky was a standout Parasuramericanos medalists (12 gold, 17 silver, 12 bronze) and reaffirmed support for the men’s side. Separately, Argentina’s national para‑volleyball team launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund travel to the Parasouth American Games in Valledupar, Colombia, after being excluded from state airfare funding. The effort aims to raise roughly US$1,000 per athlete athletes heading to maintain the country’s second‑place South American ranking. 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
