Overview
The Supreme Court of Argentina has issued several rulings upholding convictions for former public officials involving abuse of authority and corruption.
In one instance, the Court finalized a four-year prison sentence for Pablo Carlos Molina, a former judicial secretary in Corrientes. Molina was found guilty of abuse of authority and ideological falsehood for using a narcotics investigation to mask the illegal interception of his wife’s telephone communications in 2014.
In separate rulings, the Court ratified a four-year sentence for Rafael Resnick Brenner, a former high-ranking AFIP official, for bribery and extortion. The Court also finalized an eight-year prison sentence and a permanent ban from public office for former Entre Ríos Governor Sergio Urribarri regarding embezzlement and the manipulation of advertising contracts. Additionally, former AFIP Personnel Director Pablo Alejandro Brula received a six-month suspended sentence for failing to disclose foreign assets.
