FIFA’s disciplinary process, triggered by a post‑match brawl after the 2026 World Cup final on 20 July, has culminated in significant sanctions. Following the investigation into the altercation between Argentina and Spain, FIFA issued penalties against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several individuals. The AFA was fined $321,000 and ordered to play its next two home matches at 50% stadium capacity due to security issues, discriminatory fan behavior, and the display of a “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” banner after the semifinal win over England. Of the total fine imposed on the AFA, $100,000 is specifically designated to be invested in a program to combat discrimination. Individual sanctions include a 10-match suspension and $90,000 fine for Leandro Paredes, a seven-match suspension and $90,000 fine for Nahuel Molina, a three-match suspension and $30,000 fine for assistant coach Roberto Ayala, and a one-match suspension for Thiago Almada.
