The 2025/26 Argentine corn harvest concluded with a historic record of 64 million tons, surpassing the 2018/19 peak by 8.5 million tons. Building on this momentum, grain commercialization for the 2025/26 campaign reached a milestone, with sales exceeding 105 million tons of soybeans, corn, wheat, sorghum, and sunflower. As the 2026/27 agricultural cycle progresses, the 2026/27 corn planting season has commenced, with commercial corn covering 22.2% of the projected 8.4 million hectares. While planting in Entre Ríos has reached 58.3%, lower surface moisture in the core Pampean region has impacted the pace of work. Sunflower planting has also advanced, covering 32.9% of its projected area. Early wheat harvests in the north are exceeding historical averages. Recent updates indicate improving trends for wheat, with yields projected to exceed the five-season average and 64% of the crop in “good to excellent condition” due to optimal water availability. Although some frost damage is being assessed, rainfall has revitalized the planting of maize and sunflower crops, particularly in north-central Santa Fe. Maize planting has since increased to 29.9% of the projected 8.4 million hectares. The total projected planting area for the 2026/27 campaign is approximately 44.2 million hectares. Despite the El Niño phenomenon, which threatens other global producers, Argentina’s outlook is improving due to above-normal rainfall. S&P Global reports that Argentina’s soybean production projection has increased by 4 million tons to 55 million tons, contrasting with production declines expected in Brazil. The corn outlook is also positive, with a projected production increase of approximately 3%. Additionally, the Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario projects record corn exports for the 2025/26 campaign, potentially reaching 45 million tons. However, new weather challenges have emerged for the wheat crop.
