The Argentine film landscape saw updates regarding both festival programming and commercial theater listings in mid-October 2026. The Mar del Plata International Film Festival announced details for its 41st edition, introducing a new section for children and adolescents titled ‘Pequeños y jóvenes espectadores’. The festival also revealed its ‘Hora Cero’ fantasy and horror section, as well as the ‘Banda Sonora Original’ section, featuring works such as ‘Iron Boy’, ‘Muyi, la legende du village des femmes’, and ‘Viva Carmen’. Concurrently, movie theaters across various regions, including Mar del Plata and Villa Carlos Paz, updated their weekly schedules. New releases featured the live-action ‘Street Fighter’ and the thriller ‘La caída de la ballena’, alongside the animated ‘Escuela de monstruos’ and the regional comedy ‘Cordobeces, la película’. Re-releases of ‘Cars’ and ‘The Hunger Games’ saga were also noted in theater programming. By late October, specific dates were confirmed for the 41st Mar del Plata International Film Festival, organized by INCAA. Scheduled for November 5 to November 15, the event will feature approximately 150 films across ten venues and seven competition categories, including International, Latin American, and Argentine sections. The festival is set to open with Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine’ and close with Marc Turtletaub’s ‘Borges and Me’. Additional details confirmed that tickets will start at 5,000 pesos, with discounts for students and retirees. The festival will also highlight local talent from the Jujuy province, including ‘El agua nunca es mala’ directed by Victoria Meza and ‘Hecho a mano’ directed by Carolina Miy. Additionally, the fourth edition of MUBI Fest Buenos Aires was scheduled to run from October 22 to October 25 at Cinépolis Houssay. This festival will showcase 20 feature films and various shorts, featuring directors such as Andrey Zvyagintsev, Lukas Dhont, and Kristen Stewart, as well as 4K restorations of ‘Videodrome’ and ‘The Thing’.
