Educational institutions in Argentina are implementing various reforestation and environmental education initiatives. In Los Alerces National Park, students from Escuela N° 25 have participated in the Vivero Niños del Lago project, which has reforested the area with over 32,000 trees since 2006. The project utilizes a service-learning model where students cultivate native species like radal, maitén, alerce, and cypress. Despite the project’s success, the school faces infrastructure difficulties, having raised only half of the funds needed to rebuild a protective shade house destroyed by snow in 2022. In Puerto Ciudad, Escuela Primaria Nº 50 held an environmental education day as part of the ‘Cultivando sueños’ project. Organized through an ‘Inclusive Reforestation’ subprogram, the event involved hundreds of students and community members planting vegetables, aromatic herbs, and various trees, including acacia, poplar, and native coastal species. Recent community-led efforts in Argentina include students planting native willows in Río Negro, school-based reforestation projects in Necochea, and environmental education programs in Yacuanquer. Additionally, biological teaching initiatives are being launched in San Juan through the use of shadow theater. Expanding on these regional efforts, new reforestation and risk management strategies are being implemented across several Argentine provinces. This includes community reforestation in Catamarca and ongoing educational planting programs in schools. Furthermore, a proposed law in Buenos Aires aims to establish an integrated water basin monitoring system.
