Argentine theatrical and television industry updates

Overview

Argentine actors continue to engage in diverse theatrical productions both domestically and internationally. In early September, Eleonora Wexler and Gonzalo Heredia performed ‘El Estado de la Unión’ at Teatro La Comedia in Rosario. Internationally, Ricardo Darín and Andrea Pietra performed ‘Scenes from a Marriage’ in Spain. Domestic programming has expanded to include psychological thrillers and award-winning dramas. The play ‘El Cuarto de Verónica’, which has completed ten successful seasons across Argentina, is scheduled for a performance in Neuquén at Cine Teatro Español on September 19. Actress Silvia Kutika described the production as aiming to provide a suspenseful experience “similar to watching a film live”. Additionally, the award-winning play ‘Vidas Posibles’, directed by Verónica Manzone and starring Sandra Viggiani and Melisa Lara, is set to perform at Cajamarca Teatro on September 13. In Rosario, the production ‘Carrera de fondo’, featuring Gadiel Sztryk and Julieta Zylberberg, will be presented at the Teatro Municipal La Comedia. This dark comedy, based on a 2024 book by Nadine Lifschitz, explores themes of parenting and marital separation. Internationally, actresses Laura Azcurra and Valeria Stilman are bringing the improvisational comedy ‘Tita y Rodhesia’ to Cancún, utilizing audience participation to build unique stories. The entertainment industry is also preparing for a significant summer season and television shifts. In Mar del Plata, Carlos Rottemberg has confirmed productions such as ‘Las hijas’, directed by Adrián Suar, and ‘La función que sale mal’. The Radio City theater will host a renewed ‘La Revista del Cervantes’ with Lizy Tagliani and José María Listorti, alongside the musical ‘Hairspray’. Flavio Mendoza is planning ‘Los 7 auras’ at the Arena Mar del Plata. Television networks are also adjusting; El Trece is preparing for Nico Repetto’s return, Telefe will feature ‘MasterChef’ starting in October, and Canal 9 is awaiting budget determinations for its afternoon programming.
