Aris BC and Greek Cup competition updates

Overview

Ahead of a EuroCup matchup against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, Aris BC personnel discussed the team’s recent performance and roster status.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo reflected on the team’s winning streak, noting that an earlier loss to Karditsa provided a “helpful reality check” and emphasized the importance of building character through difficulty. He highlighted the need for continuous improvement and roster reliability, stating the team aims to maintain momentum to pursue a 5/5 record in the EuroCup.

Coach Vassilis Spanoulis addressed the media regarding the upcoming game, stating that Cedevita’s 0-4 start does not necessarily reflect their true quality. While focusing on long-term stability over mere wins, Spanoulis noted that Stefan Jovbitc has successfully integrated into the team. He indicated that the roster is currently full and provided a health update, noting that player Neno has returned to training following a back issue.

In the Greek Cup League Phase, Panathinaikos defeated Aris 2-1 at OAKA. Despite massive squad rotations, the match remained competitive. Kontouris opened the scoring for Panathinaikos in the 10th minute, but Canavelli equalized for Aris in the 65th minute. Panathinaikos secured the win in the 89th minute via an aerial backheel from Elmin Rastoder. The result leaves Panathinaikos at the top of the standings alongside Olympiacos, while Aris remains in seventh place with four points. Coach Grigoriou expressed disappointment, stating his team “did not deserve the loss despite a strong performance.”
