Jeremiyah Love entered the 2026 season as the No. 3 overall pick and the recipient of a four-year, $53 million contract, the largest rookie deal for a running back. Coach Mike LaFleur has emphasized a transparent, rotating workload that pairs Love with veterans James Conner, Tyler Allgeier and newcomer Trey Benson, while also protecting the $50 million investment. Following a preseason high ankle sprain, Love was active for the season opener on September 13, scoring a touchdown in his NFL debut. On September 29, Love recorded 90 rushing yards and his first receiving touchdown in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers, though he expressed personal accountability for the defeat. Following a loss to the New York Giants, Love reported ongoing physical struggles, specifically noting that managing workload and physical fatigue has been a challenge. While he stated he did not suffer a new injury during the Giants game, he continued to deal with ankle concerns. On October 15, the Cardinals ruled Love out for the Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams due to a lingering left ankle injury. Coach LaFleur stated the team is prioritizing rest, noting the injury has persisted since Week 4 and has hampered Love’s ability to “cut and run routes effectively.” On October 25, Love was ruled out for a second consecutive game due to a high left ankle sprain, which was aggravated during the Week 4 game against the Giants. The injury has limited his production to an average of 3.7 yards per carry over five games. While the team is has opted not ~~currently placing~~ to place him on injured ~~reserve, Love has missed practice throughout the week, leaving Tyler Allgeier expected~~ reserve to ~~take over lead duties.~~ avoid a mandatory four-week absence, no official return date has been set, though a return on November 1 against Dallas is considered a possibility.
