Armando ‘La Hormiga’ González, a striker for Chivas and the Mexico national team, experienced a prolonged goal-scoring drought that lasted from 5 April 2026 until his transfer to Greece. In mid-August 2026, negotiations for his move to Olympiacos were finalized for approximately €8.5 million in fixed fees plus €2 million in variables. This transaction marked Chivas’ most expensive sale to Europe. Following his arrival, González ended his drought on 2 September 2026 during a 4-0 Greek Cup victory over AEL Larissa. On 15 September 2026, he made his UEFA Europa League debut, scoring in the 43rd minute to help Olympiacos secure a 2-1 comeback victory against Jagiellonia Białystok. González dedicated the goal to his mother and noted the significance of scoring on Mexican Independence Day. This was his fourth goal for the club. Despite his success in cup and European competitions, González is still seeking his first goal in the Greek Super ~~League.~~ League, with eyes on an upcoming match against Levadiakos. Manager Imanol Alguacil has praised the form of both González and Roman Yaremchuk. To address ~~the~~ squad depth issues caused by Ayoub El Kaabi’s multi-month absence due to a tibia and fibula fracture, Olympiacos ~~has~~ added Chadian striker Marius Mouandilmadji to the roster. On 23 September 2026, González joined the Mexico national team training camp under the leadership of Rafa Márquez. He was the final player to arrive for a series of four friendly matches against Colombia, Peru, the United States, and Chile.
