Armando ‘La Hormiga’ González, a striker for Chivas and the Mexico national team, has experienced a prolonged goal-scoring drought. His last goal was recorded on 5 April 2026 during a match against Pumas. By late July, the drought had extended to nearly four months and 515 minutes of play across club and international appearances, including the World Cup group stage. In mid-August, while the scoring slump continued, González enrolled at Universidad Anáhuac Mayab to pursue an online degree in Sport and Wellness. Amidst the professional challenges, former player Fernando Quirarte has defended the striker, stating that such fluctuations are a “normal part of a professional scorer’s career” and advising González to manage criticism while regaining his form. On 14 August 2026, the Greek club Olympiacos submitted a formal initial offer to Chivas Guadalajara to acquire the 23-year-old forward. While González has a release clause of 15 million dollars, Chivas is reportedly willing to accept a lower fee if they retain a percentage of his future sale rights.
