Armed conflict in Antioquia, Colombia, involving FARC dissidents and the Clan del Golfo (EGC) has led to significant instability and civilian displacement. In mid-August, clashes over territorial control and illicit crops in the Ituango region forced approximately 100 people, including 59 families, to flee rural districts such as La Filadelfia and San Luis. These hostilities resulted in the deaths of three illegal armed group members and one injury to a member of the public forces. By mid-September, military operations in Briceño revealed that the two groups had formed a criminal alliance. Intelligence provided by a surrendered individual identified a leadership structure involving FARC dissidents and the Clan del Golfo. During subsequent security operations, authorities neutralized a suspected member of the Clan del Golfo and seized various weapons and ammunition. The Governor of Antioquia stated that the state would continue to use its “full legitimate capacity” against criminal elements. In mid-September, following a week-long offensive in Briceño, four members of the Clan del Golfo’s Juan de Dios Úsuga sub-structure surrendered to the military. One surrendered individual, known as alias ‘More’, confirmed the alliance between the Clan del Golfo and FARC dissidents operating in the region. President Abelardo De la Espriella has since issued warnings to high-value targets from the ELN, FARC dissidents, and the Clan del Golfo, stating that authorities are intensifying pressure on their financial networks and illegal economies. On September 17, security forces expanded operations in Antioquia. In El Bagre, a military strike resulted in the death of a suspected Clan del Golfo member and the capture of four others, including a high-ranking leader identified as alias ‘Isaías’ or ‘24’. In Briceño, the surrender of four members from the Juan de Dios Úsuga sub-structure further corroborated the intelligence regarding the alliance between the Clan del Golfo and FARC dissidents.
