Security forces in the San Juanito section of Bocoyna launched intensified operations following violent confrontations with armed civilians. Initial reports indicated that Rural Police and the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) were met with gunfire from a group of armed individuals in multiple vehicles. During these early encounters, authorities discovered a deceased man and an AR-15 rifle in a vehicle with California license plates, and later seized a RAM truck, tactical equipment, and suspected marijuana. Subsequent reports confirmed that a shootout between the AEI and organized crime members resulted in the death of Iván Manjarrez, a 33-year-old suspected criminal leader known as “El 19” or “El Roy”. Manjarrez was described by the State Prosecutor as a primary generator of violence in the western ~~region.~~ region, allegedly linked to extortion and homicide. The exchange of gunfire left two AEI agents and two civilians, including a six-year-old girl, injured, though all were reported to be out of danger. In response to the violence, the State Public Security ~~Secretariat,~~ Secretariat (SSPE), the National Guard, and the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) deployed to secure the area. Authorities have reinforced regional security with increased ground patrols and the use of manned and unmanned aircraft to locate remaining suspects.
