In mid-August 2026, reports emerged from the Jila District in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, regarding the alleged hostage-taking of civilians by an armed group. The perpetrators were identified as the TPNPB-OPM Kodap III Ndugama, following an attack on an Indonesian military post on August 17. While initial reports cited nine victims, Brigadier General Vivin Alivianto, Commander of Korem 173/PVB, clarified that 11 women were initially taken. During the abduction, two women were shot, resulting in one fatality, and another woman was thrown into a ravine.
