Armenia economic and infrastructure diversification

Armenia is actively seeking to diversify its economic and infrastructure dependencies, particularly as it moves away from Russian influence. In August 2026, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan requested that Russia transfer its railway operating concessions to a third party acceptable to both nations. Pashinyan noted that current Russian management could hinder Armenia’s integration into the international railway network and highlighted the importance of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project to connect Armenia with Azerbaijan and global networks.

Prime Minister Pashinyan and French President Emmanuel Macron focused on trade diversification following Russian trade restrictions that disrupted Armenian exports. To support this transition, the European Union Council has backed a proposal to suspend import duties on approximately 80% of Armenian exports to the bloc for two years.
