Individual farmers in Turkey are initiating small-scale cultivation of aronia, a fruit marketed for its high antioxidant content and health benefits. In Adana, a retired official established an aronia farm in the Karaisalı district using solar panels and drip irrigation. After four years of preparation, the project expects a first harvest of between 750 kg and 1 ton to be distributed across various provinces. Similarly, in the Sakarya province, a producer has planted 200 aronia roots in the Karapürçek district. This initiative aims to provide both fresh and vacuum-sealed dried fruit to consumers, with plans to use social media to promote the nutritional value of the crop. As the broader Turkish agricultural landscape faces economic challenges—including rising production costs for staples like sunflowers and tomatoes—alternative crops are showing high profitability. In Sakarya, aronia cultivation is emerging as a lucrative venture, with prices reaching 400 lira per kilogram.
