Rino Tazawa, a high-profile influencer and cabaret club hostess known as ‘Yamatorino’, was arrested by Tokyo Metropolitan Police for the possession of approximately 0.4 grams of cocaine. The arrest took place at her residence in the Roppongi district of Minato, Tokyo, alongside her partner, Kota Fukumoto. During the search, authorities recovered 21 additional bags of suspected cocaine and used straws. While Tazawa admitted to the charges, Fukumoto has denied involvement. The incident has caused significant fallout within the nightlife industry and on social media. Tazawa’s employer, Jungle Tokyo, suspended her activities and issued an apology. Public scrutiny has also focused on Tazawa’s past controversial comments comparing the difficulty of her profession to that of a Major League Baseball player. Additionally, attention has turned to businessman Roland, who previously distanced himself from Tazawa on a YouTube program, stating, ‘I don’t take photos with anti-social elements.’ Following the raid, public backlash intensified due to footage of Tazawa’s behavior while being transported to the Harajuku Police Station. Observers criticized her for making gestures, winking, and posing for media cameras, which many netizens interpreted as a lack of remorse. Furthermore, editor Kosuke Minowa commented via YouTube that drug use may be more prevalent in the Minato City nightlife district than is publicly acknowledged. Tazawa’s high profile is underscored by her previous record at ‘Jungle Tokyo’, where she reportedly generated 230 million yen in sales during her birthday month in April. On October 7, Tazawa and Fukumoto were re-arrested on suspicion of consuming cocaine and ketamine. While the initial investigation focused on possession, prosecutors have formally indicted Tazawa for the possession of roughly 0.024 grams of ketamine, following urine analysis that reportedly confirmed the presence of both substances. Fukumoto has reportedly admitted to the new allegations, but Tazawa has maintained her silence regarding these suspicions.
