Arsenal 2026 pre‑season preparations and transfer moves

On 23 July 2026 Arsenal announced an ambitious pre‑season itinerary, arranging friendlies with Girona, Real Betis, Borussia Dortmund and Como before the Community Shield against Manchester City. The club confirmed permanent defender Piero Hincapié, backup goalkeeper Illan Meslier and Greek winger Christos Tzolis, while noting remaining gaps in defence, midfield and left wing. Training resumed at London Colney the next day with senior players and youth prospects. New signing Christos Tzolis joined after completing his own pre‑season with Club Brugge, and the club introduced two senior medical staff – Eneko Angulo as head of rehabilitation and Arnaldo Abrantes as head of medicine and performance – replacing former club doctor Zafar Iqbal. A week later manager Mikel Arteta said the squad needs “better individuals” ahead of the upcoming transfer window. He highlighted Tzolis as the first signing intended to replace departing midfielder Leandro Trossard and outlined plans to reshape midfield minutes, mixing regulars such as Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi with younger options like Myles Lewis‑Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka, while managing the return of injured stars Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz. Arsenal’s pre‑season will open with a closed‑door win over Milton Keynes Dons, followed by a public friendly against Girona. On 30 July Arsenal confirmed that the pre‑season will officially kick off on 1 August with the Girona friendly at Estadi Montilivi, streamed exclusively on Arsenal.com and the club app. New signings Christos Tzolis and striker Viktor Gyökeres are expected to feature, while defender William Saliba remains sidelined with a back injury sustained in the World Cup semifinal. The club is close to finalising a €90 million deal for Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, and midfielder Fabio Vieira is reportedly pushing for a permanent move to Hamburg amid a €20 million option‑to‑buy dispute.
