During a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has pursued multiple historic milestones. Initially, Singh was noted as being five wickets away from becoming the first Indian bowler to reach 150 T20I wickets. During the first match at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, he also utilized football-style skills to effect a run-out of Bevon Jacobs. By the second T20I on October 24, Singh moved closer to breaking the record for the most T20I wickets taken by an Indian player in a single calendar year. Having recorded 36 wickets in 2026, he required two more dismissals to surpass Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 2022 record of 37. In the second fixture, Singh achieved the record by claiming 2/33, which brought his 2026 tally to 38 wickets. His dismissals of Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips secured the new national record. Following this performance, Singh now stands just two wickets away from becoming the first Indian cricketer to reach 150 T20I wickets. India secured a four-wicket victory in the second match to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Despite a 116-run partnership between New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs that helped the hosts reach 180/5, India successfully chased the target with contributions from Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Heading into the third T20I at Hnry Stadium in Wellington, Singh remains two wickets away from the 150-wicket milestone. He currently holds 148 wickets in 101 matches, with an average of 20.41 and an economy rate of 8.65. He has taken three wickets across the first two matches of the current series.
