Various art exhibitions have opened in Spain and Mexico, focusing on themes of mental health, memory, and the natural world. In Spain, Pablo Micocci inaugurated ‘Conciencia psicodélica (sugestión de razas humanoides y entidades)’ at the Hospital Centro Vivo de Badajoz, exploring mental health and modern social pressures. Concurrently, Javier Galiana presented ‘Mar y mente’ in Jerez, using the sea to explore emotions and honor immigrants. Additionally, José Luis Dacosta dMedeiros is hosting a retrospective titled ‘Fronteras’ at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy in Cartagena, which examines memory and uncertainty through four decades of work; this exhibition remains available for free until October 17. New cultural programming in Spain includes the ‘Mercado del Encanto’ at the Cartagena Casino from October 9 to 12, featuring independent brands and artisans. In Beas de Segura, the 25th Biosegura film festival will run from October 9 to 16, showcasing 26 short films from 37 countries with a focus on the environment and rural life. Other regional exhibitions include ‘Arte que humaniza’ in Salamanca, featuring African art and photography from the Kivu region until October 29, and a display in Córdoba at the Palacio de la Merced showcasing the oldest known photographic report from the province, captured by Baltasar Castellá between 1913 and 1916. Recent additions to the Spanish cultural calendar include a documentary screening of ‘Antonio. El bailarín’ at the Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares in Seville, which explores the career of flamenco dancer Antonio Ruiz. In Madrid, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is debuting an exhibition of Mapuche art by Seba Calfuqueo, exploring themes of territory and identity through the Cautín River. In Mexico, the ‘Marea’ collective exhibition opened at the Mérida International Airport. This collection features 16 works by female artists from the Layda Rodríguez Art Studio, drawing inspiration from marine life such as fish and corals.
