Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced an extensive development roadmap for the state, focusing on border infrastructure, education, and renewable energy. Through the ‘Vibrant Village Program’, the state is transforming frontier communities into hubs for tourism and local livelihoods. Phase-I involves approximately 2,800 crore rupees in projects across 455 villages along the India-Tibet border, while Phase-II expands to 122 villages along the borders with Myanmar and Bhutan. To bolster energy production, the state has declared 2025–2035 as the ‘Decade of Hydroelectric Power’. This initiative aims to establish 19 GW of capacity through an estimated investment of 1.9 lakh crore rupees. The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is already contributing 1,000 MW of clean energy. Further investments include ₹7,834 crore for the 2026-29 period under the Chief Minister Comprehensive Schemes and ₹1,500 crore for Phase-II of Mission Shikshit Arunachal to improve school infrastructure and digital education. Long-term goals also include training one lakh youth and fostering 10,000 entrepreneurs by 2036. Recent developments have seen the Indian government sanction approximately Rs 2,423.70 crore for five road construction projects on the Arunachal Frontier Highway (NH-913). These projects, covering nearly 278 km of intermediate lane roads, were awarded to joint ventures led by Ceigall India Limited across the Upper Subansiri and West Siang districts. Additionally, the 132 kV Along-Kamba transmission line and the 132/33 kV Kamba substation have been energized. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stated this expansion aims to improve power reliability and grid stability, providing essential support for the Tato Hydroelectric Power Projects. This is part of the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening Transmission and Distribution System, with 95 of 239 project elements now operational.
