Investment and development of AI data center infrastructure are increasing across Asia. In Malaysia, neocloud provider Aolani has signed letters of intent to secure 500MW of capacity, expected to come online in the second half of 2027, bringing its projected commitment to 580MW. Additionally, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) and Global Vision Lab Sdn Bhd are exploring a proposal for a large-scale AI data center in Perak with a capacity exceeding 100MW to serve the ASEAN region. Google has announced a $15 billion investment in Malaysia scheduled for 2027 to 2028 to expand data center and infrastructure capabilities. This builds upon a previous $2 billion commitment made in 2024. The company pledged to add more than one gigawatt of clean energy capacity to the national grid and prioritize energy efficiency and local water security. The facilities are projected to support over 9,000 local jobs annually. Complementing these infrastructure goals, Iverson Associates and Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched the Malaysia AI Certification Challenge to support the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, which aims to increase the number of AI professionals from 3,000 to 30,000 by 2030. In South Korea, the government has announced a 21.3 trillion won budget for 2027 to support AI mega-projects. While the NEXT group estimates potential capacity could reach 20GW by 2035 if all planned centers are realized, a scenario based on confirmed customer contracts suggests a demand of 2.5GW for the same period. Other regional developments include Indonesia, where LG CNS completed a 30MW hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta through a joint venture with Sinarmas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management. This facility uses a hybrid cooling system and is expected to expand to 400MW in future phases. In India, Larsen & Toubro has started construction on a 52MW facility in Chennai, developed by Vyoma.AI, which utilizes direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology to support high-density AI workloads. technology.
