In May, Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira was physically assaulted in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district. The attacker, identified as Yusuf Y., reportedly struck Torreira in the head following an obsession with the player’s partner, actress Devrim Özkan. Torreira’s driver, Eray Saylan, also intervened in the altercation. Following the incident, prosecutors prepared an indictment seeking prison terms for both Yusuf Y. and Saylan. However, the situation escalated after Yusuf Y. was released from prison. The individual allegedly intercepted Torreira’s driver, issuing a threat stating, “I come to finish what I started.” Due to these renewed threats and safety concerns, Torreira has requested his representative, Pablo Bentancur, to arrange his departure from Turkey. While the player has expressed affection for the country and his club, the ongoing stalking and security risks have compromised his safety. Turkish authorities have opened a new investigation into the matter. Galatasaray management is reportedly attempting to meet with the player to persuade him to remain with the team despite his desire to leave Istanbul. As the security situation persists, professional transfer interest has emerged. Italian club Venezia has reportedly made an official move to sign the Uruguayan player for a net fee of 6 million euros, following previous interest from Fiorentina. Venezia is also reportedly proposing a three-year contract to the 30-year-old. Torreira’s interest in returning to Italy is reportedly driven by these security concerns and a sense of isolation following the departure of close teammates. Despite the transfer rumors, Torreira remains a key figure for manager Okan Buruk, having started Galatasaray's opening matches of the season. As the transfer window nears its end, Galatasaray has rejected Venezia’s €6 million official offer. As Galatasaray evaluates its squad planning and foreign player quota for the new season, interest in Torreira has resurfaced.
