PT Astra International Tbk is expanding its ‘Desa Sejahtera Astra’ community development programs across Indonesia, focusing on cultural preservation, public health, and education. In Banyuwangi, East Java, the company is constructing an amphitheater in Kemiren Village using traditional Osing architecture to support regional tourism and local performing arts. Additionally, through the Astra Michael D. Ruslim Education Foundation (YPA-MDR), Astra has entered a five-year partnership with the Banyuwangi Regency Government. This program, titled ‘Bersama Berkarya untuk Pendidikan yang Berdampak’, supports 10 elementary schools in the Glagah and Sempu districts by integrating character and academic pillars to improve teacher and student competencies, including the provision of laptops. In Sukabumi, West Java, Astra has partnered with the Ministry of Population and Family Development and the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) to implement the ‘Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh Cegah Stunting’ (GENTING) movement. This initiative in Gedepangrango Village provides nutritional interventions and support to 674 families to improve maternal and child health, while also addressing sanitation, clean water access, and village-level health services. Strengthening this collaboration, Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, visited Gedepangrango Village to observe the program. The initiative, implemented through the Astra Prosperous Village program, utilizes Family Friend Nutrition Cadres to focus on nutritional interventions for toddlers and pregnant women while strengthening Posyandu (integrated health post) services. Beyond nutrition, the partnership includes non-nutritional aid such as renovating livable housing and improving sanitation and clean water access to accelerate stunting reduction in Indonesia.
