AstraZeneca has achieved several regulatory milestones regarding its oncology and rare disease pipelines. In Europe, the company received approval for Enhertu in combination with pertuzumab for first-line treatment of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. This was followed by a recommendation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the use of Enhertu in treating HER2-positive breast cancer in adults following surgery, based on Phase III clinical data demonstrating measurable effects compared to current standards of care. In the United States, the FDA granted prioritized review for Efzimfotase alfa to address rare diseases. Additionally, AstraZeneca expanded its lung cancer portfolio by acquiring global rights to ZEGFROVY, an EGFR inhibitor for non-small cell lung cancer, with plans for a U.S. launch in late 2026. Expanding its lung cancer efforts, AstraZeneca has submitted an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the combination of Orpathys (savolitinib) and Tagrisso (osimertinib). This treatment is intended for patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors exhibit MET overexpression or amplification following progression on an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The application is supported by the Phase III SAFFRON clinical trial, which demonstrated statistically significant improvements in progression-free and overall survival compared to platinum-based chemotherapy. This combination aims to address MET-driven resistance, which occurs in approximately 34% of tumors after progressing with third-generation EGFR inhibitors. Amidst these developments, CEO Pascal Soriot demonstrated management confidence by purchasing 60,000 ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange, a transaction valued at approximately £7.26 million.
